Charlie and I will get to thinking we're doing well with the babies when someone inevitably says, "Oh yeah, but wait until they all start crawling."
So...JUST before that happened, we decided to have their 8 month pictures taken. The quadruplets can all sit up on their own now, but they can't get away from us yet!
Our good friend and super-patient infant photographer Michelle Mattox did an awesome sitter session photo shoot for us earlier this month. Michelle did such a great job capturing all of the babies' personalities...so here's a little update on each:
This is Captain Stinkerpants. He basically learned how to crawl while Michelle was taking his picture. Now Baby Charlie is in to everything. He has these massive paws and he just claws over and through anything valuable or breakable he can find in his path.
Baby Charlie recently ceded his drama queen crown to Ms. Claire, and he has morphed into a generally agreeable kid these days. He can push himself up to sitting position and likes to show off at bedtime by refusing to lay down in his crib to go to sleep. Molly overheard me calling Big Charlie "Chucker" the other day so now she likes to refer to Little Charlie as "Baby Chucker".
DRAMATICA! Claire is really pushing our buttons with this whole teething ruse. She has a new high-pitched scream that goes off each morning usually in the 3:00 am hour, and her screeching has earned herself the new nickname "Claireadactyl".
When she's not screaming her head off, Claire is pretty cute. Claire Bear won't crawl yet although she probably could. She has an adorable scrunchy-nose smile and still hasn't figured out how to rip her headbands (or ridiculous photo-shoot bonnets) off yet...so that's good.
This child wears the weight of the world on his shoulders. What are you so worried about Henry?!
Henry always has a furrowed brow and remains the most serious of the quadruplets. After Charlie, he is the closest to crawling and is such a chill baby. If Henry is screaming, then something must be really wrong.
Dillon Monster has had a rough last couple of weeks. He finally got the dreaded helmet for his flat head and it took a little while for him to adjust. But even with his new apparatus, Monster Man is still the best sleeper, the best eater, he smiles the most and is so pleasant.
In other news...Aunt Charlotte and her fiance David came to San Diego to visit us from Texas. They spent tons of time holding babies and preaching about Texas A&M football. While in town, Charlotte and David had their engagement pictures taken in Balboa Park..and if you know the quadruplets, they are never one to miss a photo shoot, so we semi-sabotaged their peaceful pics.
Dillon getting his helmet was definitely one of our family's highlights from the past few weeks. All of the babies were initially assessed for flat heads, but Dillon being the flattest, he got the helmet.
We were told he will need to wear his helmet for 10-14 weeks and hopefully his head will round out by then. He wears it 23 hours a day (pictures on the off hour, obvi...) and the practitioner reminded us that it's tougher on the parents than it is for the actual kid.
Dillon doesn't even seem to notice the helmet, although he has taken to headbutting his siblings. Most people in public won't make comments, but family has no filter. ("What's wrong with that baby?!" Thanks Uncle Kevin! :)
(...oh, and PS: see all those babies holding their own bottles? That is a dream come TRUE!)
We took the whole family to Crested Butte, CO last week to visit our friends Larry and Sherriwho were spending time there. It was perfect timing since the color of the aspen trees changing happened to coincide with our trip. My parents were gracious enough to join us and helped us get everyone to and from CO. Check out Charlie mixing drinks on the plane....
We spent our week in Crested Butte in the strollers just strolling around town and checking out the wilderness. It was Molly's first time seeing a mountain and she was obsessed with putting hats on the babies.
Back in California... Charlie and I got to get away to Napa for a few days with friends while Molly ran the roost.
Charlie's cousin Kelly came from New York to hang with us and our cousins Connor and Jackson turned 4 and 2. We all went to the Hotel del Coronado for some Happy Hour/sunset action and attended a block party in our neighborhood. The babies turned an uneventful 8 months. Our awesome caregiver Jessica figured out how to use the twin carrier and actually took all 5 kids out at once, amazing!
We are laying low for the next few weeks while everyone hopefully breaks in their new teeth. Grammy Ann is coming back from Texas to visit and we're putting our house on the market next month. We love our neighborhood and are grateful that we're only moving 15 doors away to a bigger house with a fenced-in yard. We'll keep you posted on how it goes trying to show and sell a house that features 5 cribs!
